ANNIKA KOOPS / SHERRY MCLANE ALEJOS RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM
TUESDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER

Annika Koops and Sherry Mclane Alejos present the Talk “Cryptoverse: Modes of Exchange, Collaboration, and Code within Network Culture” at Federation Hall University of Melbourne 1.30 pm

Annika Koops and Sherry McLane discuss their recent collaboration ‘Cryptoverse‘, presented for the Bristol Biennial in June 2012, which emerged from their respective MFA research interests.
The ‘Cryptoverse’ project is bound to processes of categorisation, decentralisation of voice and identity, chance and alternative channels of transmission. Speculative tactics of exchange and mapping are brought forward so as to discuss process-based modes of collaboration, the active negotiation between sign making, knowledge circulation and transference.

The artists examine the role code plays in terms of facilitating the convergence of disparate entities and how it relates to the encryption of knowledge. The artists unpack how the exhibition platform and its associated modes of distribution relate to code as well as how alternative formats for further engagement unfold. These strategies are considered within the context of communications theory, metaphysics and contemporary networking culture (both in terms of computing and the formation of social networks).
